For travellers, the self-employed and anybody who loves a luxury launch, September really is a fantastic month. Here’s the lowdown on five of our favourites:

Soho House Barcelona

This isn’t 2016’s first new Soho House either! A second New York club opened on Ludlow Street in June, and Babington House – Soho’s Somerset enclave for trendy, opulent types – was refurbished earlier this year too. They’ve also opened Cafe Monico, a European Cafe on Shaftesbury Avenue London. But, just when you thought the luxury private members club couldn’t get much more international, it pops up in the Basque country’s most beguiling city: Barcelona. Located in the Gothic Quarter, facing the harbour, it’s got the usual SH hallmarks: a funky bar, restaurant, bedrooms, screening room, gym, rooftop terrace and pool (complete with space to lounge). What’s next on the agenda for the SH group? Mumbai, apparently. Oh, and a beach house in Malibu…

The 13 Hotel in Macau

It’s caused a stir in the press already: this month’s launch of The 13, Macau’s most upmarket hotel to date is certainly shifting the goalposts a bit when it comes to luxury accommodation. Each room is a villa, with the largest boasting 30,000 square feet – the same size as Mark Wahlberg’s entire Beverley Hills Mansion, reports The Independent (www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/the-13-in-macau-the-most-luxurious-hotel-ever-built-looks-absolutely-insane-a7238346.html#gallery). Even the most ‘bog standard’ villa includes a Roman Bath, elevator direct to your ‘room’ and 24-hour Butler. Once you go up a notch, the sky really is the limit (and the floor’s retractable marble)…

Julian Riad Sahyoun – luxury jewellery

Designer Julien Riad Sahyoun believes jewellery should have a meaning – a connection between creation and its owner. That’s why he takes as his inspiration his multi-cultural background (born in Morocco, Julien is of French, Italian and Lebanese descent) and uses unique stones including yellow and black diamonds. Julien’s impressive new collection (including 18k white and gold pieces) is launching at JRS, 5 Hertford Street, London.
